A simple way to do great by the planet is to purchase products made from hemp. That’s right, hemp. And no, I’m not talking about the plant that conjures aromas of patchouli and slow talking hippies. I’m talking about its fibrous cousin, a plant that is hands-down the most sustainable and utilitarian crop on the planet. Not convinced? Consider the following:

It cleans the planet as it grows by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.

It grows like a weed (HA!) and requires zero fertilizers or pesticides.

It uses less than half of the land and water required by cotton.

It’s 10 times more profitable than wheat, corn, or soy for farmers.

It actually nourishes the soil by returning 60-70% of the nutrients back into the land.

It doesn’t require crop rotation or needing fields to lie fallow.

It grows in a huge variety of climates.

AND IT HAS AN ESTIMATED 50,000 USES!  That’s right, you could literally build your house out of Hempcrete, carpet it with hemp-based carpeting, hang up some hemp curtains, fill the closet with hemp tee shirts, and then whip up a hemp protein smoothie in the kitchen. Oh, yeah, and you could power your vehicle with hemp-based biofuel too!

This is where I would normally say, “Put that in your pipe and smoke it!” But that’s the one thing you actually can’t do cause it contains virtually no THC (the ingredient in pot that gives you that high). What I will say is this: hemp is the future of sustainable agriculture. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) thinks so too and is introducing the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which will make it legal for US farmers to once again grow industrial hemp. Join the Hemp fan club and let it take care of your needs while it helps clean our planet.
